Welcome to The Local Plate.
I write a biweekly Friday newsletter on Substack filled with restaurants I’m loving, recipes worth slowing down for, seasonal dinner party menus, travel guides, and local NY roundups. I share what I’m cooking (or daydreaming about) to help you build flavorful, satisfying meals for you and your people.
Each edition is a little homage to what’s good right now: what’s in season, what’s in my fridge, and what feels just right for the week ahead. I hope it inspires you to make a meal, try a new spot, and savor the creative process of cooking and eating with intention.
Below is a taste of what I was writing about before launching the newsletter.
Nonono & Chicken A to Z
This yakitori restaurant focuses on traditional Japanese grilling techniques and boasts fresh ingredients and a large menu of affordable delicacies.
Chai Pani & Transformative Indian Cuisine
Chai Pani is more than just a restaurant, it’s a creative brand that’s leveraging its storytelling talent to transport us into their childhoods and ancestries, and give back to the community.
Traditional Valencian Paella & L’Estimat
With a full stomach and full confidence, I can now confirm that paella in Valencia is the best paella.
Perro Andaluz Revisited & Redeemed
As promised, I went back to Perro Andaluz to test out another menú. Let’s just say, I can’t praise their ingenuity enough. This time, I committed to the menú. The description: vegetable pad thai, sushi with tofu, and apple gyozas.
Christmas in Berlin & Cafe Krone
An unlikely delicious combination of sesame-seasoned pork belly and eggs—and tasty chai latte—propelled this breakfast into my top five favorites for sure.
